Musiq told JetMag he has "hit the ground running" as he spreads the word about breast cancer awareness.
"Go get screened, tested, checked," he urges women. "Know your body. Breast cancer is not an older woman’s disease. Young women get it, too, and African-American women are more affected than any other group."

"I just care about my fellow man and fellow woman. And I want to help in whatever small way I can."
There's no history of breast cancer in Musiq's family, but he was still compelled to join the fight. "I don’t need that as a motivating factor. There are people out there who are affected by it, that’s enough of a reason. I want to help. Since being part of this awareness movement, I’ve been meeting a bunch of people who are battling the illness."
Soulchild is an ambassador with Susan G. Komen For The Cure’s Circle Of Promise campaign to get the word out on awareness and empowerment, especially among African-Americans.
"This is important. We’ve got to get these numbers down. Be more pro-active as early as possible. The more information you get early, the better."
